چکیده

Circular-perfect graphs form a natural superclass of perfect graphs: on the one hand due to their definition by means of a more general coloring concept, on the other hand as an important class of χ-bound graphs with the smallest non-trivial χ-binding function χ(G) ≤ ω(G) + 1. The Strong Perfect Graph Conjecture, recently settled by Chudnovsky et al. [4], provides a characterization of perfect graphs by means of forbidden subgraphs. It is, therefore, natural to ask for an analogous conjecture for circular-perfect graphs, that is for a characterization of all minimal circular-imperfect graphs. At present, not many minimal circular-imperfect graphs are known. This paper studies the circular-(im)perfection of some families of graphs: normalized circular cliques, partitionable graphs, planar graphs, and complete joins. We thereby exhibit classes of minimal circular-imperfect graphs, namely, certain partitionable webs, a subclass of planar graphs, and odd wheels and odd antiwheels. As those classes appear to be very different from a structural point of view, we infer that formulating ha l-0 03 07 75 5, v er si on 1 3 N ov 2 00 8 Author manuscript, published in "Discrete Applied Mathematics 156 (2008) 998--1010"

Minimal circular-imperfect graphs of large clique number and large independence number

This paper constructs some classes of minimal circular-imperfect graphs. In particular, it is proved that there are minimal circularimperfect graphs whose independence number and clique number are both arbitrarily large.

Claw-free circular-perfect graphs

The circular chromatic number of a graph is a well-studied refinement of the chromatic number. Circular-perfect graphs form a superclass of perfect graphs defined by means of this more general coloring concept. This paper studies claw-free circular-perfect graphs. First we prove that ifG is a connected claw-free circular-perfect graph with χ(G) > ω(G), then min{α(G), ω(G)} = 2. We use this resu...

On vertex neighborhood in minimal imperfect graphs

Lubiw [11] conjectures that in a minimal imperfect Berge graph, the neighborhood graph N (v) of any vertex v must be connected; this conjecture implies a well known Chvátal’s Conjecture [6] which states that N (v) must contain a P4. In this note we will prove an intermediary conjecture for some classes of minimal imperfect graphs. It is well known that a graph is P4-free if, and only if, every ...

Triangle-free strongly circular-perfect graphs

Zhu [15] introduced circular-perfect graphs as a superclass of the well-known perfect graphs and as an important χ-bound class of graphs with the smallest non-trivial χ-binding function χ(G) ≤ ω(G)+1. Perfect graphs have been recently characterized as those graphs without odd holes and odd antiholes as induced subgraphs [4]; in particular, perfect graphs are closed under complementation [7]. In...

On minimal imperfect graphs with circular symmetry

Results of Lovász and Padberg entail that the class of so-called partitionable graphs contains all the potential counterexamples to Berge’s famous Strong Perfect Graph Conjecture, which asserts that the only minimal imperfect graphs are the odd chordless cycles with at least five vertices (”odd holes”) and their complements (”odd antiholes”). Only two constructions (due to Chvátal, Graham, Pero...
